Arsenal and Manchester United have both sent scouts to watch 19-year-old Hertha BSC midfielder Arne Maier on a number of occasions, according to reports in Germany.

Sport1 and Sport Bild report that the u21 German international has been the subject of interest from both Premier League clubs in recent weeks. They’ve reportedly sent scouts to watch him playing in the Bundesliga, as well as in Hertha’s DFB-Pokal match last month.

Maier plays as a defensive midfielder, and currently has a contract running until 2022 in Germany. Despite his age, he’s played the full 90 minutes in all of Hertha’s matches this season.

They’re yet to lose a game so far, and clearly Maier’s part in that is something the big clubs are picking up on. The media have also linked him to FC Barcelona recently.

The u19 Bundesliga champion broke into the senior side in Berlin last season, making 17 Bundesliga appearances, as well as a handful in the Europa League and DFB-Pokal. If he can keep up his good form, perhaps we’ll see him getting a big move in the near future.
