The FA Women’s Super League and FA Women’s Championship season opened this weekend with group stage Round 1.

Two teams will qualify from each group for the quarter-finals.

Arsenal beat West Ham and are runners-up in their group behind Lewes.

Group one north

  • Aston Villa 1 Sheffield United 2
  • Birmingham 0 Manchester City 0 (City win after pens)
  • Leicester 2 Bristol 2 (Leicester win after pens)

Sheffield United, who were promoted two divisions during the Summer, are top of their group ahead of the FA WSL teams.

City beat Birmingham on penalties, while Championship side, Leicester, upset FA WSL team Bristol, also on penalties.

Group two north

  • Liverpool 0 Manchester United 1
  • Reading 4 Durham 1

The big upset came from the newly formed Manchester United franchise who play in the Championship beating established FA WSL side, Liverpool, while Reading top the group after an easy 4-1 win against Championship side, Durham

Group one south

  • Crystal Palace 1 Tottenham 1 (Palace win after penalties)
  • Chelsea 3 Brighton 1
  • London Bees 1 Yeovil  1 (Bees win after penalties)

Chelsea are top of the group after a clash of the top tier sides.

Championship side, London Bees defeated FA WSL side Yeovil on penalties. Promoted side Palace beat Spurs in the tie between the Championship sides.

Group two south

  • Arsenal 3 West Ham 1
  • Lewes 5 Charlton 0

Championship side Lewes are top of the group after hammering FA WPL Champions, Charlton.

Arsenal beat newly promoted West Ham by three goals to one

Matchday 2 will be played next Sunday.

Arsenal will not be involved as our group has five teams.
