Aaron Ramsey and Nacho Monreal have both returned to training with Arsenal ahead of the team’s first Premier League match against Manchester City this weekend.
Both players missed the final games of Arsenal’s pre-season preparations with injuries. Ramsey had to pull out of the Chelsea match at the last minute, and didn’t return for the Lazio game that weekend. Monreal was only ever scheduled to play in that final friendly in Sweden, but he ended up having to miss out as well.
As a result, there’s a lot of doubt over whether either player will be able to play in Arsenal’s Premier League opener on Sunday. However, their chances of participation rose significantly after they both took part in training on Tuesday.
Unfortunately, the game will probably still come too soon for Monreal. He hasn’t played in a fixture of any kind since his 12 minute substitute appearance for Spain in June. Ainsley Maitland-Niles will have to take his place at left-back, as Sead Kolasinac is also on the sidelines with injury.
Ramsey, on the other hand, appeared in three pre-season matches before his knock. With any luck that’ll mean he’s ready as soon as he gets the all clear from the medical team.
