Unai Emery has named Carl Jenkinson, David Ospina and Joel Campbell as the three players that could leave this month, with the rest set to stay on at the Emirates.
Speaking in a press conference ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Manchester City, Emery was asked whether there was any chance of further departures, before the European transfer deadline at the end of the month.
The Gunners’ head coach responded that there is a chance, but only for specific members of the squad.
“Today, we had a meeting with the players to close all the possibilities to leave or come with more players,” he explained. “We only have three players: Carl Jenkinson, David Ospina and Joel Campbell, with the possibility to leave. But the other players are with us.”
Danny Welbeck also looked like he might leave the club this summer. There were a number of clubs reportedly interested in his signature, in the Premier League and across Europe. If there was ever a chance for him to move on though, it appears the opportunity is now gone.
As for the three mentioned, Jenkinson was never likely to get much of a chance at Arsenal with Hector Bellerin and Stephan Lichtsteiner ahead of him. David Ospina similarly has two players ahead of him in Petr Cech and Bernd Leno.
Joel Campbell had a lot of injury problems last season, and he’s also just unlucky that his preferred position is as a striker or a right-forward, when what Arsenal could really do with is cover on the left.
If the right offer comes in, the trio are realistically almost certain to move on. Hopefully they find the right club for them.
