All six Arsenal loanees featured for their temporary clubs over the weekend, to varying degrees of success.
Centre-back Krystian Bielik moved to defensive midfield for Charlton against Fleetwood, and performed impressively. He completed 90% of his passes, won 11 aerial duels, made four interceptions and four clearances (via @AFC_LoanWatch) as the Addicks drew 0-0 in their League One clash.
David Ospina made his debut for Napoli against Milan, and had a mixed time. His team won 3-2, so overall they got the result, but conceding twice without making a save doesn’t exactly cast his performance in the best light.
Matt Macey had even more trouble in goal for Plymouth, as they lost 5-1 to Peterborough. In fairness, the visitors have won all five of their league games so far, and lead League One. Still, it was a day to forget for the 23-year-old.
Takuma Asano started against Werder Bremen, but couldn’t keep his run of goals going on this occasion. He ended up substituted off on 75 minutes, having only managed to make 15 passes all game, with 14 reaching the intended target.
Kelechi Nwakali and Calum Chambers both did well in brief substitute appearances for FC Porto B and Fulham respectively. Their teams had contrasting performances though, with Porto B losing 2-0 and Fulham winning 4-2.
We’ll see if any more Arsenal youngsters join the list of loanees this week, as the transfer window for lower league English sides and foreign teams finally closes.
