Arsenal are considering making a move for AC Milan’s left-back, Ricardo Rodriguez, according to the Daily Mail after Sead Kolasinac picked up a knee injury.
The issue wouldn’t be so bad if Nacho Monreal hadn’t returned with a slight knee problem of his own that has kept him out of pre-season so far. He’s expected to return to full training with the team on Tuesday but Unai Emery has all but ruled him out of the season opener against City on Sunday. Emery also admitted that his team are working with Ainsley Maitland-Niles so he can step into that position properly.
The Swiss defender Rodriguez has been linked with a move to Arsenal previously although those seemed to dry up back at the start of 2017.
AC Milan, according to the Daily Mail’s report, would not be keen on selling the 25-year-old who still has another three years left on his contract in Italy. £30m could be required, an amount that seems rather excessive to cover a two-month injury.
There have, however, been rumours that Calum Chambers is set for a move to Fulham. Given that Emery is supposed to be very impressed with the 23-year-old, it is expected to be a loan deal only. This would also free up space in the squad.
Widespread reports on Sunday claimed Chambers would arrive at Craven Cottage on Monday for a medical. He agreed a new four-year deal with Arsenal just last month.
Rodriguez can also play at centreback or left midfield if required.
