The season is just a few days away from starting and we’re already knee-deep in the swamp of prediction land.
Monday’s Daily Mail has a Premier League prediction special and, this year, like most years, nobody thinks Arsenal will do much of anything.
This was a running joke under Arsene Wenger.
Every season journalists would claim this was the year Arsenal would be overtaken by Spurs and every year we laughed as they weren’t.
It only took them 20 years to get it right, a worse rate of success than a stopped clock.
So, it’s probably no surprise to anyone that the entire Daily Mail football team has given the Arsenal squad under Unai Emery no chance of cracking the top four.
Only Sami Mokbel thinks Arsenal will achieve anything – a League Cup trophy.
Interestingly, while the journalists were all asked who would win the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, be promoted and relegated, and who would win the Champions League, they never bothered making a Europa League prediction.
You know, that trophy Unai Emery won three times in a row and Arsenal made the semi-final of at their first attempt…
