Emile Smith Rowe, Reiss Nelson and Eddie Nketiah are all set to head out on the tour of Singapore with Arsenal, whilst the u23s prepare for a tour of Germany, according to reports.
Twitter user Andy’s Arsenal Youth, who follows the academy teams all year and often has inside knowledge of the u18 and u23 sides, reveals that the young English trio are set to head out on tour with the first-team squad this weekend.
Football.London write Charles Watts has also confirmed the news about Smith Rowe specifically. Watts adds that whilst Mesut Özil, Mohamed Elneny and Alex Iwobi are also joining the tour, the remainder of Arsenal’s World Cup players won’t link up until after the tournament.
The academy players who don’t travel to Singapore will head to Germany for pre-season instead. It remains to be seen which trip the likes of Chuba Akpom, Joe Willock and Jordi Osei-Tutu end up on. We should know by Sunday though, when the players board the flight.
It’s especially good to see Smith Rowe getting a chance, after his impressive debut against Boreham Wood. He looks ready to grab first-team chances when they’re available, but needs a test against higher level opposition to prove that point. Atletico Madrid and PSG will provide that test.
