Arsenal have made contact with Andre Gomes over a summer move, according to reports, after the Barcelona star was reportedly left out of the squad for his current club’s pre-season tour.

Well-informed French outlet Paris United claim Arsenal have entered into contact with the Barcelona midfielder. According to reports in Spain from Sport, Barcelona would be willing to accept as low as £16m for the player at this stage. They’re only interested in a permanent transfer.

Part of the reason the La Liga side are offloading Gomes for such a low price is it’s become so clear he wants to leave, and isn’t in their plans anymore. The same Spanish report that reveals Barca’s low asking price also claims the Portuguese international won’t be taken on their pre-season tour.

Mundo Deportivo write that the player’s preferred destination is Tottenham, as he believes the style of play at the club would fit him best. However, he would happily join any of the top clubs in the Premier League.

In fact, a potential transfer to England is reportedly the exact reason he changed agent from Jorge Mendes to Paul Martin last season. Martin has a good network of connections with clubs in the Premier League.

We’ll see where Gomes ends up on deadline day, but it’s looking very unlikely it’ll be with Barcelona.
