Arsenal are reportedly in ‘advanced talks’ to sign a second senior goalkeeper in Yann Sommer.

Although Unai Emery hinted that his main transfer business is done it seems as if that might not be true. Despite already signing Bernd Leno, it seems Arsenal are looking at bringing in a second top keeper to replace Petr Cech AND David Ospina rather than just one of them.

In an article on Saturday discussing who could replace Jasper Cillessen at Barcelona, Marca casually mention that Arsenal are in negotiations with the Borussia Monchengladbach keeper.

Marca write: “An elite goalkeeper and a veteran too, he’s good with the ball at his feet. However, he is already in negotiations with Arsenal and could join Unai Emery’s team before Cillessen departs.”

Beinsports then follow this up saying the talks are ‘advanced’.

The Swiss international is under contract until 2021 having signed an extension at the start of 2017. He is currently valued at approximately £9m, however, there is no mention in the Marca piece about the fee Arsenal are prepared to pay for him.

Cech, as you’ve probably heard, is happy to stay at Arsenal but is being linked with a return to Chelsea. David Ospina is meant to be close to a move to Besiktas.

As much as I like Cech as a person, there is no denying he has been on the decline for a while now. As for Dave, he has never been able to replicate his international form for the club and you won’t find many fans unhappy at the thought of him leaving.

I don’t know about you, but I’m more than happy to go into the new season with two brand new keepers.
