Juventus’ Rodrigo Bentancur has attracted the attention of Arsenal and Barcelona, but the Italian club aren’t keen to sell, according to reports.

Gazzetta.it report that both clubs have shown an interest in the Uruguayan midfielder. However, Juventus have ‘no intention’ of selling such an important player for the future, and plan to immediately knock back any requests for his signature.

Nonetheless, if Arsenal or Barcelona made a decent enough offer, you’d expect Juventus to consider it, whatever they might claim right now.

After all, they’ve just spent around £93m to sign Cristiano Ronaldo. If they want to remain compliant with Financial Fair Play, selling a player or two is the best way to offset that cost.

The part of this story that makes it difficult to believe is that Arsenal are still chasing a central midfielder.

The club already have Granit Xhaka, Lucas Torreira, Aaron Ramsey, Mohamed Elneny, Matteo Guendouzi, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Joe Willock. As well as the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Mesut Özil who can drop in, or more players from the academy like Emile Smith Rowe.

Nonetheless, the midfield rumours persist, from Ever Banega to Steven N’Zonzi, Andre Gomes, Adrien Rabiot and now Rodrigo Bentancur. Fortunately there’s only a few weeks left of the window now, before deadline day when we’ll know for sure.
