Unai Emery has blocked Juventus from making any sort of move for Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin, according to reports.

The Mirror wrote on Tuesday that the new Arsenal head coach told Bellerin that he’s one of five ‘untouchable’ players this summer, and the club will do anything to hold onto him. The other four haven’t been named publicly, but the 23-year-old is definitely on the list.

Italian outlet Calciomercato claim this move was to ‘reinforce’ Bellerin against Juventus’ attempts to sign him. They describe signing the Spaniard as a ‘goal’ for the Italian champions, but one which they’re unlikely to achieve now.

It’s good to see Unai Emery taking steps to tie down the players he wants to keep at the club, as well as letting players who aren’t crucial to his plans leave. Jack Wilshere ended up deciding not to stay at Arsenal as a result of his talks with the Spanish coach, but admitted he appreciated the 46-year-old’s honesty with him.

There’s no point making false promises to players now, just to have a major fall-out mid-season because you go back on them. Emery needs to be clear with every player what his hopes and ambitions are for them, then stick to his guns when the season begins.

From the looks of things, that’s what he plans to do.
