Former Gunner and fan favourite Lukas Podolski wants a move to Galatasaray this summer, according to the Turkish media.

Turkish outlet Yeni Akit report that Podolski sent a message to his former club letting them know he wants to come back. Reportedly the German regrets his move to Japan, and is already looking to go elsewhere. Yeni Akit write that he wants to “experience the excitement” of the Super Lig again.

Podolski moved to J-League side Vissel Kobe last summer, and had a relatively successful time with the club. He scored 10 goals and assisted four in 30 appearances after the move.

Unfortunately, he didn’t manage to stay fit, and he’s currently recovering from a calf muscle strain. According to his posts on social media, he’s well on the way to a return from that injury now though.

Those posts certainly don’t suggest he’s going anywhere, though the hoards of Galatasaray fans in the replies of his latest tweet suggest they’re starting to get excited about the prospect anyway.

Podolski scored 31 goals and assisted 17 in 82 appearances for Arsenal, before leaving in 2015. A year later, he announced his retirement from international football, so he won’t play any part in Germany’s tournament in Russia this summer. From the way his country have started the tournament, they might end up missing him!
