Caglar Soyuncu admits he wants to play for Arsenal, but he has to wait and see what his club decide, thanks to the length of his contract.

Speaking in quotes reported by Turkish outlet Gunes, Soyuncu admitted he’s already turned down a number of offers, all in the hope of joining Arsenal. He can’t do so without the blessing of SC Freiburg though.

“I hope I go to Arsenal,” he said. “I really want to play in the Premier League, but everything depends on the team. Arsenal is an option, I want to play there, but everything is connected. Because I have a contract for three more years.

“I received bids from some of the teams in Turkey. I can’t name the teams, but I did not accept it. I do not think about playing in Turkey at the moment. I want to continue my career in Europe.”

It’s been notable throughout this saga that Soyuncu and his agent haven’t made any attempts to hide the fact Arsenal are a very real option for them. Recently his representative told the media there were ‘concrete talks’ with the club, and that Sven Mislintat is a long term admirer of the player.

At the time, he made it sound like Arsenal were just one of many Premier League teams interested in Soyuncu, as any good agent would. From what the defender is saying though, it sounds like there’s only one club he really wants to join.

Soyuncu made 26 appearances (25 starts) in the Bundesliga this season, despite his age. His impressive domestic form helped him nail down a place in the Turkey national team as well, and he’s started every single one of their games since 5th September 2017.

Now it’s down to Arsenal to get a deal over the line and to make him their next signing.
