Porto winger Yacine Brahimi could be on the move this summer, with Arsenal reportedly targeting a transfer, and sources close to the player claiming he wants to come to England.

Portuguese outlet Jornal de Noticias made the story front page news in the sports supplement Ataque (via SportWitness). They claim that Porto are willing to negotiate for the player, because his contract expires next year and they only own 50% of his rights anyway. The winger has a €60m release clause.

According to their report, Brahimi has ‘been recently pointed out as an Arsenal target’, and sources close to the Algerian claim he wants a move to the Premier League.

Brahimi is 28 years old, so Arsenal would only be likely to go for him if they could get a good deal. There wouldn’t be much point paying €60m for a few years unless he was guaranteed to make a massive impact in that period.

Admittedly the player did have a very good season in the final third. He scored 12 goals and assisted 10 from the left-hand side, and WhoScored list his passing, through balls and dribbling as “very strong”.

On the other hand, he also seems to have a number of weaknesses, including tackling, crossing, finishing and his defensive contribution. Whether he’d fit into Unai Emery’s style of play, pressing to win the ball back, is debatable.

We’ll see if this rumour goes anywhere in the coming weeks.
