Arsenal are expected to announce the signing of Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper, Bernd Leno today [Tuesday] according to a report in Sport Bild.

The German publication writes, “The transfer of Bernd Leno (26) from Bayer Leverkusen to Arsenal is apparently perfect. On Tuesday, the keeper is to be presented according to SPORT BILD information at the Gunners.”

Bild continue to say that they expect Petr Cech to become Arsenal’s number two. This, despite the fact he was given the actual number one shirt recently. In their Tuesday edition, the Daily Mail claim Leno is seen as the ‘long term’ replacement for Cech.

Leno has agreed a five-year deal with Arsenal.

Leno’s release clause with Bayer Leverkusen expired at the end of May, but the Bundesliga club did not ask for more, according to reports in Germany.

German outlet Kicker wrote that Leno’s €25m release clause was only valid until the end of May, so was no longer possible for Arsenal to activate it and get a deal done quickly.

That doesn’t seem to have held them back however. Leno informed Leverkusen in April that he was going to leave this summer and they have already signed 28-year-old Lukas Hradecky to replace him.
