Aleksandr Golovin’s father has dropped a major hint on his son’s future, by suggesting the 22-year-old wouldn’t hesitate to move abroad if he gets an offer.

Speaking to Russian outlet Komsomolskaya Prada, Golovin Sr first insisted that his son is fully focused on the World Cup for now, and isn’t even thinking about the transfer window.

“Sasha [Russian variation on Aleksandr] does not even read this news so as not to clog his head during the World Cup,” he said (via Goal). “He now has one thing on his mind: the Russian team.”

After making that clarification, however, the player’s father then added what he believed Aleksandr’s response would be to an offer from outside Russia.

“If such proposals are made, I believe that he will go abroad, play abroad,” he admitted. “There, football is of a different level, there is nowhere to hide. Speeds are different. I’m sure my son will be able to play at a new level.

“It will be more difficult with a foreign language. But I know that Sasha has already started learning English.”

The media have linked Arsenal to a move for Golovin for much of this year. The player himself responded to the speculation by telling reporters he tries not to think about it. Arsene Wenger also admitted that the midfielder is ‘a very interesting player’, before the boss left the club not long afterwards.

It all seemed to be heading for a possible offer from Arsenal this summer. The situation is more complicated now though, because the player has started the World Cup so well. He has a goal and two assists in the tournament so far, playing a big part in Russia’s two victories.

Now there will be plenty of competition for his signature. We’ll have to wait and see if Arsenal can fight it off.
