Barcelona are already looking for a replacement for Jasper Cillessen, and are planning a bid for Wolfsburg goalkeeper Koen Casteels, according to reports in Germany.

SportBuzzer report that Cillessen ‘wants to leave’ Barcelona, and they wouldn’t stand in his way, if they receive the right offer. In preparation for his departure, they’re reportedly preparing a bid for Casteels. They’ve made first contract, although they haven’t made an official offer just yet.

The goalkeeper’s agent, Nico Vaessen, will meet with Wolfsburg manager Jorg Schmadtke over a possible move in the coming days, per reports in Belgium relayed by the German outlet.

That all sounds like good news for Arsenal’s chances of signing Cillessen. Spanish journalist Alfredo Martinez, recently claimed the Gunners and Liverpool both have offers on the table for the 29-year-old, who would be allowed to leave for around €45m.

Cillessen spoke to the media about the situation, and explained that he’s just patiently waiting for Barcelona’s decision on the matter. He admitted he’d have no problem moving to Arsenal or Liverpool, but would also happily stay at his current club if they don’t want to sell.

The goalkeeper only made 11 appearances in 2017/18, but played well when given the opportunity. That was emphasised by the fact he kept eight clean sheets, only conceding three times all year.

That was largely down to Barcelona’s solid defensive record though. They had the second fewest goals conceded in La Liga last year, after Atletico Madrid. Still, he showed his quality when called upon, which is more than you could say for Arsenal’s options for most of last season.
