Ever Banega’s family want to stay in Seville, casting major doubt over whether the player would want to join Arsenal, according to reports in Spain.

Estadio Deportivo write that the player’s family is “committed” to remaining where they are. We’ve all seen how family can play a role in some footballers’ futures, for example Petr Cech joining Arsenal to stay in London, or Jack Wilshere picking AFC Bournemouth over AS Roma to stay in England.

There’s also some confusion over Banega’s agent situation at the moment. Plenty of recent reports suggested Marcelo Simonian was flying to London for talks with Arsenal over a transfer. However, Estadio Deportivo report that the player is no longer represented by Simonian.

Instead, his future is in the hands of other intermediaries, and it’s reportedly unclear whether any of them have met with Arsenal. The Spanish outlet suggests it’s still a toss up whether Unai Emery would be able to convince the player to choose to leave.

As for convincing Sevilla to sell, that shouldn’t be too difficult. Banega has a contract until 2020, but he has a €20m (£17.6m) release clause, which really isn’t too high.

Estadio Deportivo write that the clause goes up to €25m in the final 10 days of the transfer market. That’s not relevant to Arsenal though, as the Premier League window closes a few weeks before the Spanish one anyway. The club will have to get any deal done long before then.
