Arsene Wenger believes that Kyle Walker should lose his place in the England starting lineup and that Gareth Southgate should turn to his former teammate at Tottenham, Eric Dier.

Continuing his punditry duties with BeIN Sports, Wenger identified the 28-year-old Walker as England’s weak link and can’t understand why the right-sided player is being used as a central defender.

Although England have a 100% record so far from their two group games (against Tunisia and Panama) Walker conceded a penalty against Tunisia in the opening game.

“He’s not a real defender and especially not a central defender,” Wenger told BeIN SPORTS about Walker. “He can be subject to making defensive mistakes which he would not pay for when he plays on the right.”

Wenger then suggested that Tottenham’s Eric Dier should replace Walker in a back-three. “He can play in the middle of the defence and as a midfielder,” he said. “I don’t know why he has not been used at all.”

England face Belgium in their final group game on Thursday. The two sides are battling it out for first and second place with the pair tied on points, wins, goals scored and goals conceded.

Should they draw, the fair play table will be used to separate them.

The winner of group G will face the runners-up from group H (Japan, Senegal, Colombia, Poland) while the runners-up will face the winners of that group.
