Arsenal have offered Aaron Ramsey a five-year deal with rumours circulating that Unai Emery wants to build his team around him as Stephan Lichtsteiner is set to become his first signing.
Ramsey is out of contract next summer and concerns have been growing that the club could look to cash in on him rather than lose him on a free transfer.
Although there are no details available about what sort of wages Ramsey would earn, we can assume he will receive a hefty increase on his current £110k-per-week.
Ramsey could also be offered the captain’s armband.
Ramsey, for his part, sounds excited to return to Arsenal to work under Emery.
“I haven’t spoken to him at all yet, but I think it’s an exciting time for the club.
“I can’t wait to get back there now,” Ramsey said.
If Ramsey does not agree to the new deal before the close of the transfer window, he will be sold, according to reports.
Lichtsteiner, meanwhile, is said to have all-but-completed his move to Arsenal.
The captain of the Swiss national team will arrive on a one-year deal with the option of a further year also included in his contract.
The player is with his national team, preparing for the World Cup while one of his representatives completes the deal on his behalf according to the above report. He was believed to have been close to signing for Borussia Dortmund before Arsenal entered the equation.
Lichtsteiner is also a player Arsene Wenger tried to sign a number of times from Juventus.
