Unai Emery wants to make Jean-Michael Seri his first signing as Arsenal manager, according to various reports.

The Daily Mail write that the club are targeting a move for the Nice midfielder this summer. Emery reportedly tried to sign the player for Paris Saint-Germain in January, and will now try to bring him to Arsenal instead. Seri has a clause in his contract allowing him to leave his current club for €40m.

According to Sky Sports, Arsenal recently got in touch with Seri’s camp to get discussions started.

This isn’t the first time the media have linked Arsenal to a move for the midfielder. Last summer, Seri was the only player who came close to Monaco’s Thomas Lemar in terms of Arsenal media speculation.

Now the club need reinforcements in the centre more than ever. Santi Cazorla is leaving the club after finally recovering from injury, Jack Wilshere still hasn’t signed a new deal and neither has Aaron Ramsey, whose current contract expires in 2019. That leaves Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka as the only two tied down long term.

Seri’s biggest strength is his passing. He completed over 90% of his passes last season in both Ligue 1 and the Europa League. WhoScored list his key passes as “very strong”, so he’s not just going from side to side either.

We’ll have to see how this story progresses, but with Raul Sanllehi also reportedly having good links to Seri through his time with Barcelona, the chances of a deal look good.
