Zeljko Buvac is unlikely to return to Liverpool, after falling out with the club over an approach from Arsenal, according to reports.

The Mirror report that Klopp was ‘fuming’ that Buvac didn’t tell him Arsenal made him an offer. Reportedly Sven Mislintat got in contact with the assistant, as the pair previously worked together at Borussia Dortmund. The Liverpool manager then found out through his contacts at Dortmund.

Reports on the incident didn’t rule out the possibility that Arsenal could bring in Buvac as an assistant for somebody else, rather than giving him the managerial role directly. However, it would be strange for him to leave Klopp and Liverpool, who are doing so well, to take the same job at a club that are struggling.

I think it’s more likely that if Arsenal have made him an offer, it’s for the top job. I definitely wouldn’t put it past the club to bring in such a wildcard option.

Buvac hasn’t managed a team since SC Neukirchen, back in 2001. Since then he’s worked alongside Klopp at Mainz, Dortmund and Liverpool. The Bosnian apparently gets most of the credit for developing the high-speed attacking style which is so inseparable from Klopp’s teams today.

We’ll see if the Arsenal board decide they want him to bring that style to North London.
