Arsenal are close to signing Barcelona’s Aleix Vidal according to a report in Dario Gol which claims that the move is already being discussed in the Barcelona dressing room.

Of course, for that to be true, you have to forget that the season is already over and the players aren’t even in the dressing room anymore, but let’s pretend that’s not the case.

So, what does the rumour say?

Well, Dario Gol report that Philippe Coutinho and Lionel Messi, who has been ‘demanding the release of the Spaniard for months’ see the arrival of Unai Emery at Arsenal as ‘holy water’ for the Barca board.

Why?

Because, they claim, Arsenal are cash-rich and will be willing to spend a hefty sum on their un-wanted right-back.

The 28-year-old played for Emery when they were both at Sevilla and the report claims Emery has already been in touch with the player, who is under contract with the Catalans until 2020.

Arsenal, as you may already know, have a number one right-back in Hector Bellerin. Although the young Spaniard has been linked with a move away from the club, they recently handed him the number two shirt and he has confirmed he will be staying at the club.

Although there is no back-up for him at the club, Stephan Lichtsteiner has reportedly already been at London Colney and is close to agreeing a move to Arsenal on a free transfer.

It’s hard, therefore, to see where Vidal would fit at the club.

There has been no formal offer from Arsenal but Dario Gol believe that one will be coming soon and that Barcelona are almost giddy at the thought because they believe they can squeeze more money out of the Londoners.

Vidal made 15 La Liga appearances last season, scoring one and assisting two. He averaged around 30 minutes in each of those 15 appearances. In total, he played 25 times, averaging 41 minutes per game.
