Paris Saint-Germain have made Thomas Tuchel their ‘plan B’ as they look for someone ‘more popular than the German’, according to reports in France.

In recent weeks it seemed like Tuchel joining PSG was a done deal. They even reportedly have a verbal agreement with the manager, and Unai Emery has already announced his departure from the club.

ParisUnited now claim Tuchel taking over isn’t as certain as it seemed. The French club apparently want someone else, and are still actively searching. Jose Mourinho rejected the call, and they’ve also tried their luck with Diego Simeone and Mauricio Pochettino among others.

Nonetheless, it still looks like a long shot the German will choose to join Arsenal. From the sounds of things, he already turned the job down. Let’s hope for his sake that PSG don’t end up picking someone else, leaving him unemployed.

Tuchel has been out of a job since 2017, when he left Borussia Dortmund. The Bundesliga club chose to sack him despite winning the DFB-Pokal, as they were only third in the table.

Now, one year on, they’re third in the table and trophyless. I’m not sure that really went the way they were hoping.

For now, it still doesn’t look particularly likely that Tuchel joins Arsenal. If PSG do appoint somebody else in the next week or so though, perhaps that could change.
