David Moyes has called out Arsenal fans and pundits for their sudden changes of heart on manager Arsene Wenger, after the 68-year-old announced his departure from the club.

It’s fair to say Wenger’s announcement on Friday provoked a pretty huge emotional reaction around the world. Nowhere more so than in the Arsenal fanbase, with all manner of responses to the news.

Before long though, 90% of supporters were singing the praises of someone who brought so much to their club. Moyes noted the stark contrast between that and the fan protests not so long ago.

“A lot of people are now talking very positively about Arsene Wenger, when there were people who didn’t before,” he said. “People in the know understand what he has done and the level of football he has produced. Given all that positivity I am sure their players will be up for it.

“I am not so sure all Arsenal fans were 100 percent behind the manager, but I’m sure they appreciate that he has given the best of his ability over 22 years.

“It changes everything. It may have changed the tone of a game in that you go there and try to keep everybody quiet. But now everybody will probably go there to show their appreciation of what he has done.”

It certainly adds a new dynamic to the match on Sunday. The stadium probably would’ve been littered with empty seats without the news, as it has been in recent weeks. Now I expect we’ll see an almost full house, with fans returning from all over to pay tribute to the boss.

Before, there wasn’t really much to play for, other than staying above Burnley. Now, it’s all about ending Wenger’s managerial era in the right way, and keeping momentum going for his final trophy opportunity in the Europa League.

I’m sure the players will be up for it, knowing what’s now at stake. Hopefully the fans can create an atmosphere to remember as well.
