Napoli are planning to give Jorginho a new contract in an attempt to prevent Arsenal, Liverpool or Manchester United from signing him, according to reports in Italy.

Gazzetta dello Sport (via talkSPORT) claim the Italian club have been so impressed with the midfielder’s performances this season that they want to offer him a new deal.

His current contract already lasts until 2020, but they want to extend that all the way to 2023. If they do so, the 26-year-old could remain at the club until the age of 31.

Arsenal are following the midfielder ahead of a potential summer move, according to reports earlier this week. His agent admitted it’s a possibility that his client moves on in the next transfer window. He did also suggest that the player is just as likely to extend his deal though. At this point it seems it could go either way.

Jorginho has started 24 of Napoli’s 27 league games this season, helping them to the top of the table. They’re currently one point clear of Juventus, although last year’s Serie A champions have a game in hand.

The defensive midfielder could be just the kind of player Arsenal need at the moment. He is a very strong passer, but also contributes well out of possession.

Now the club just need to hope he decides against signing that new deal, and turns down Manchester United and Liverpool. Simple.
