Arsenal will have to pay more than €40m (£35m) if they want to sign Ruben Dias from Benfica this summer, according to reports in Portugal.

Portuguese outlet Record write that Benfica want at least €40m for the defender. Apparently the side are already looking for a replacement, such is their concern that a big club will come along to snap him up.

We first heard of Arsenal’s interest in the centre-back last week, when reports suggested the club sent scouts to watch the player.

Club representatives have been in Portugal for a while following Andrija Zivkovic, if you believe the rumours. Clearly Dias has now caught their eye, or perhaps that’s who they were watching all along.

The Portuguese 20-year-old plays at centre-back for the second-placed Primeira Liga side. He started the season with the academy, but he’s now a regular in the senior team.

Despite his age, Dias has 12 consecutive league appearances since the turn of the year. He scored three goals in that time, and helped the team to clean sheets in his last three games.

Plus, the youngster played in both of Benfica’s Champions League matches against Manchester United.

We’ll have to wait and see if there’s anything to the latest rumours though.
