Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has revealed that the reason he signed for Arsenal was to work with Arsene Wenger, offering the strongest hint yet that the club are happy for Wenger to remain for the final year of his contract.
Aubameyang only signed for Arsenal in January and, while Arsene Wenger would have formed part of the negotiations that landed him, those were mostly handled by others at the club.
That Auba felt confident to come to Arsenal to work with Wenger just two months ago offers a clear picture of what will happen with the manager this summer.
It’s hard to think that the club would tell Aubameyang that Wenger will be sticking around for a little while longer only to get rid of him six months later.
“I think we take the manager for granted, I am really happy because I am here because of him,” Aubameyang said.
Wenger has repeatedly stressed that he will not walk away from his contract and although many at Arsenal, including Ivan Gazidis, would like to see the manager replaced this summer, it is believed they are content to let him see out the final year of his contract out of respect for what he has done for the club.
