Arsenal sent scouts to watch 21-year-old midfielder Richard Sanchez on Monday night, according to reports in South America.

The claims come via The S*n, so you have to take them with a pinch of salt. If you believe them though, Arsenal are considering a move for the young defensive midfielder.

If scouts were watching Monday’s match, they witnessed a lot of excitement. Sanchez’s side Club Olimpia went 3-0 down to Sol de America within 35 minutes. Then Olimpia launched a comeback, levelling the score at 3-3 in a game that also featured injuries and a red card.

On the other hand, I’m not sure conceding three goals in just over half an hour wins you much praise as a defensive midfielder.

In more positive news for the player, he received his first senior international call-up last week. He could make his debut for Paraguay on March 28th against the USA.

Boca Juniors are also interested in Sanchez, but Olimpia club president Marco Trovato told them he’s “non-transferable”. With the side top of the Primera Division in Paraguay, you can see why they want to keep the team together.

I’d imagine Arsenal have a bit more pulling power, particularly in the financial department. We’ll see if that’s enough to change the club president’s mind.
