The latest reports regarding Arsene Wenger’s future at Arsenal suggest that the 68-year-old could be staying on as manager for another five years and Gooners are not happy.
Ahead of the Spurs defeat, the Daily Star reported that Wenger wants to reach 1,000 Premier League games with Arsenal. Considering he’ll be at 828 at the end of the season, the Frenchman would have to stay for another five years to reach quadruple digits.
Cue Arsenal fans screeching uncontrollably on social media.
Of course, this is the Daily Star we’re talking about, so it’s hardly set in stone that Wenger is staying. All we know is that he has a year-and-a-half on his current deal and he’s always honoured his contracts in the past.
We also know that Wenger is stubborn and loves Arsenal. Therefore, although the 1,000 games part of the rumour seems like a bit of a stretch, most fans can absolutely see the bloke hanging around until the end of time.
Like clockwork, Gooners on Twitter have started getting twitchy, seeing as Arsenal don’t appear to have a successor lined up for the summer.
Fans are talking about Wenger as if he’s some sort of evil overlord that’s torturing them every weekend. Or Donald Trump or something.
1000 Premier League games. Wenger joined in 1996 to current season that’s approx 840 games. I think when PL started there were 22 teams in league.

Wenger hinted he wants to manage Arsenal for 1000 Premier League games – that’s another five years. He has to be stopped.

Apparently Wenger hinted he wanted to manage #Arsenal for 1000 EPL games. That’s roughly another FIVE YEARS. That must NOT happen. He cares more about his personal goals than #AFC. Get him out of OUR club NOW. #WengerOut #TOTARS

If Wenger signs a new contract I want @ReissNelson9 and @EddieNketiah9 to join Pep at City where they can learn under a world class manager
