The Italian media’s love-in with Wojciech Szczesny is still going strong with La Gazzetta dello Sport claiming the goalkeeper has ‘no rivals’ in Serie A at the moment.

Since taking over from the injured Gianluigi Buffon as Juventus’ no.1 in December, Woj has taken Serie A by storm.

In a total of 16 appearances, the Poland international has kept 12 clean sheets (75%), which is absolutely staggering.

Granted, the 27-year-old has a sturdy defence in front of him but, if the Italian press are singing his praises, you know he’s doing well.

Plus, Buffon has kept ‘just’ 10 clean sheets in 20 appearances with the same defence.

“There are no rivals in Serie A, even and especially if you takes a look at the entire season: in the league, Szczesny has an average of a goal conceded every 195 minutes,” Gazzetta point out.

While Woj won’t be Juve’s true no.1 until the end of the season when Buffon’s contract runs out (“No human being of sound mind can ever question the kingdom of Buffon”), the Italian media seem confident that he’s more than up to the task.

“Thanks to his heir, protected by a defense back to old heights, the shock will be minimal,” says the outlet.

After Arsenal sold the goalkeeper to the Old Lady for £10m over the summer, watching how superbly he’s getting on is rather bitter sweet. On one hand, I’m glad to see Woj doing so well and getting recognised for his vast improvement over the last two-and-a-half years, but on the other I’m still mad he’s not doing so for Arsenal.

Obviously, he’s not the one I’m mad at.
