Mesut Ozil’s new three-and-a-half year contract with Arsenal is set to be announced ‘imminently’.

According to the Telegraph, Arsenal have denied that Ozil has formerly signed a new contract with the club but a ‘verbal agreement’ has been reached and there will be an announcement soon.

Transfer deadline day was, for once, pretty exciting for Arsenal fans. Not only did the Gunners finally announce the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but the BBC’s David Ornstein also reported that Ozil had signed a new deal.

The contract extension will make the 29-year-old the highest paid player at Arsenal – £350k-per-week before tax – and tie him down until 2021.

That means he could end up still be in north London at the age of 32.

Given the Telegraph’s report that the deal will be announced ‘imminently’ and Ozil’s social media post on Wednesday night, in which he trolled the hell out of our weak and fragile Gooner hearts, I would say confirmation is probably right around the corner.

Of course, we somewhat hilariously have John Cross from the Mirror claiming the German playmaker still wants to sign for Manchester United but let’s not pay any attention to him.
