Alexandre Lacazette seems to have provided Arsenal fans with a positive update during his recovery from knee surgery.

On Friday afternoon, Lacazette shared a short video via his Instagram story of his knee in what appears to be a fancy post-surgery compression bandage.

The 26-year-old also gives an ‘okay’ sign.

The striker has undergone a knee Arthroscopy to fix an ongoing problem. The procedure, according to the NHS website, is designed to:

  • repair damaged cartilage
  • remove fragments of loose bone or cartilage
  • drain away any excess fluid
  • treat arthritis, frozen shoulder, carpal tunnel syndrome or temporomandibular disorder (TMD)

It looks like the striker is on a treatment table so presumably he’s had a check up on the knee he was operated on this week, as well as probably some physio, and everything’s going well.

The brace or compression garment, if that is indeed what it is, isn’t just there to stabilise the knee, it’s to help blood flow in the area.

The NHS website says:

Depending on the procedure you had, you may need a temporary sling, splint or crutches to support and protect the joint while you recover. In some cases, special pumps or compression bandages are used to help improve blood flow.

The Frenchman is expected to be out for around five weeks.

Lacazette hasn’t had an easy ride recently. He’s been struggling to find the back of the net and has only scored once since December 2. He also had a game to forget against Spurs last Saturday.

He was only on the pitch 25 minutes but missed two late shots and caught a lot of flak.

Now, he has a knee problem to contend with, although Arsene Wenger reckons the two might be linked.

“He got a surprising swell of the knee after the game against Tottenham and he needed surgery very quick,” Wenger told beIN Sports.

“It’s a massive blow for us and we have to find a solution. Nobody could predict that.

“Football does unpredictable things and it’s always a good opportunity for someone to step in and do well.

“I think he recently must have felt something in his knee. Maybe that’s an explanation as to why he wasn’t scoring as many goals as he’s used to.”

Lacazette was forced to watch Arsenal beat Östersunds FK 3-0 in the Europa League from of his own living on Thursday night.

Hopefully his recovery continues to run smoothly and he can get back to his best before the end of the season.
