Gedion Zelalem will continue his recovery from a serious knee injury at Arsenal instead of going out on loan.

Zelalem is recovering from an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury he sustained while playing for USA in the u20 World Cup last summer. Last month, he posted a video of himself running for the first time since the injury.

According to Goal, the midfielder will remain at Arsenal for the rest of the season to continue his recovery. There was a chance that the American could have gone on loan, but it seems Arsenal are playing it safe with him.

ACL injuries can take a long time come back from. Players have often ruptured their other knee ligament by coming back too soon.

Zelalem’s contract expires in 2019, so he still has time to make an impact at Arsenal. The 20-year-old is a very promising player who has impressed on loan at Rangers in the past.

His next step will be to recover from his injury and feature for the Arsenal u23 side towards the end of the season. After that, he could go out on loan again in an effort to earn himself a new deal.
