Dwight Yorke believes Henrikh Mkhitaryan would suit Arsenal, and says that a fresh start at a new club could be the perfect remedy to turn his form around in England.

Arsenal are hoping to sign Mkhitaryan as a part of a deal that would see Alexis Sanchez go the other way. While there’s still plenty about the deal for the teams to discuss, former United forward Dwight Yorke believes it’d be a good move for the Armenian.

“Don’t forget, Mkhitaryan was in really exceptional form earlier on this season,” he told talkSPORT. “For some reason in the last few months he’s fallen out of favour. Maybe it’s a lack of form or a lack of confidence he showed earlier on this season.

“But an Arsenal type of player – he’s got quality, and we’ve seen that at Old Trafford, but he’s sort of lost his way here. A new start in London, playing for Arsenal – it might be the key factor in him going.”

Mkhitaryan started the season with a flurry of assists, but lost his form as the year progressed. He fell out of favour with Jose Mourinho and started being left out of matchday squads altogether.

Arsenal could be a better environment for him to show off his talent. Arsene Wenger would give him greater freedom in attack, while also not burdening him with too much defensive responsibility. He’s also far more forgiving of errors and bad form.

The Gunners will need to convince the midfielder that they’re a club worth joining, however. With so much upheaval and a poor recent form, they may not be the most attractive destination at the moment.

Mhkitaryan joined Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund in 2016. He’s been suggested as a replacement for Mesut Ozil, should the German leave in the summer.
