Arsenal could be looking for a Manchester United player in exchange for Alexis Sanchez, but Arsene Wenger and Sven Mislintat have different targets in mind.

Manchester United are suddenly the favourites to sign Alexis this month after Manchester City pulled out. There has been speculation that United may offer a player in exchange for the Chilean.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been mentioned, but according to the Daily Star’s chief sports writer David Woods, Arsene Wenger would prefer Anthony Martial. He tweeted that Mkhitaryan is the preference of Sven Mislintat, who signed the Armenian for Borussia Dortmund in 2013.

Neither Mkhitaryan or Martial are certain starters in the United team as they haven’t quite earned the full trust of Jose Mourinho. Either of them would be a fine addition to the Arsenal squad but would offer two very different skill-sets.

Mkhitaryan was a target for Arsenal before he joined United, hence the current link. With Mesut Ozil still at the club, it’s possible that Wenger feels Martial, who closely resembles Alexis in playing style, is more of a priority.

If Arsenal can get any decent attacker in exchange, that’d be a welcome bonus.
