Arsene Wenger believes that bringing in Henrikh Mkhitaryan in exchange for Alexis Sanchez was the best possible solution.

The deal that will see Mkhitaryan join the club and Alexis Sanchez go to Manchester United should soon be complete.

Arsenal were in a tricky situation with the Chilean.

It was clear that he wanted to leave, but the club needed a replacement, and finding one wasn’t easy.

In the end, they found a potential answer in Mkhitaryan, who was struggling at United.

Wenger admits that we’ll only know if this is a good move with time, but feels that getting a player in exchange was a good deal.

“We have tried to find the best possible solution and the best possible solution is that we lose a world class player – I don’t deny that at all – but we did not lose him without getting somebody after. The future will tell if it was the right decision or not,” he said, as reported by the Telegraph.

“It is not that we are only losing a player, we are gaining a player as well. And we are still active in the transfer market and trying to bring players in.”

To lose Alexis to a rival without a replacement would have been the absolute worst case scenario.

With that in mind, getting Mkhitaryan in was a good move.

The Armenian should cover that large hole in the first team, at least in the short-term.

Should he be complimented with other signings, such as Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, then Arsenal will come out of this in decent health.

Losing a top player to a rival is never a good thing, but we’ll have fresh talent in the team to enjoy.
