Arsene Wenger has thrown cold water over reports that Arsenal want to sign Chelsea defender, David Luiz.

Wenger has denied that Arsenal have any interest in signing Luiz after recent reports claimed the Gunners wanted to bring the 30-year-old on board.

“I don’t want to speak of any special name. But these reports are wrong,” said Wenger during his pre-Chelsea presser on Tuesday morning.

Arsenal do need a centre-back.

What with Per Mertesacker set to take over as head of the Gunners’ academy at the end of the season and the club yet to replace Gabriel, who signed for Valencia in the summer, we could very easily be left a short… Especially when you take Laurent Koscielny’s dodgy Achilles into account.

However, the chances of Chelsea selling us Luiz seem slim. Even if we were genuinely interested. Would the defender even want to sign for a rival club?

The Brazilian hasn’t played since Chelsea’s 1-0 victory over Bournemouth on October 28 and is apparently out with a knee injury.

Before that, Luiz was said to have had a training ground spat with manager Antonio Conte, which is presumably where the rumours that he could leave Stamford Bridge came from.

In total, the centre-back has made 194 appearances for Chelsea during his two stints in London. The 30-year-old did spend two years at Paris Saint-Germain but returned in 2016 for a reported £34m.
