He wanted to leave Arsenal: Jose Mourinho explains why Alexis is getting huge salary

Jose Mourinho has spoken about Alexis Sanchez’s desire to leave Arsenal and his lucrative new salary.

Manchester United completed the signing of Alexis Sanchez earlier in the week and will pay him a very handsome salary.

The figure seems to increase every time it’s reported, but it’s believed to be substantially more than what he was earning at Arsenal.

Mourinho has explained why the move went ahead and why they ended up agreeing to pay the Chilean so much.

“I know that he wanted to play in a different club. A decision was made, for his reasons which I won’t discuss, that he wanted to leave Arsenal,” he said.

“Obviously, he wanted to paid according to his quality, his perspective and according to the risk.

“The player that left his contract [to run out] is a player that is playing everyday and training everyday in the limit of risk. A risk that other players don’t have when they sign a contract of three, four, or five years.

“He has to take advantage of the risk. That’s obvious.”

It was obvious that Sanchez didn’t want to be at Arsenal after the summer.

There could have been various reasons for that.

One was that the team wasn’t competing at the level he wanted it to.

Another could have been what Arsenal were prepared to pay him.

He could have satisfied both needs at Manchester City. He will certainly satisfy at least one of them at United.

Mourinho’s point about Sanchez being in a risky situation was interesting, as he highlighted the problems Alexis might have faced had he picked up a serious injury.

Beyond that, he’s United’s problem now. Arsenal are already moving on.
