Chris Sutton believes Arsenal are no longer an attractive destination for top players, and questions why Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would even sign.
Arsenal’s season certainly hasn’t been very enjoyable so far.
The expectation was improvement after last season’s fifth-placed finish, but the team is on course to do even worse this time around.
Arsene Wenger hasn’t quite been able to turn things around on the pitch. All the while, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are still out of contract in the summer.
It’s not the healthiest of situations, and Chris Sutton believes it’s harming Arsenal’s chances of signing top players.
“Arsenal are not even the fifth-best team in the country and their best players want out. Wenger is not kidding anyone any more,” he wrote in the Daily Mail.
“What we are seeing with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil is that top players no longer view Arsenal as an attractive prospect, a place where they can become champions.
“Arsenal have fallen behind the Manchester clubs, Liverpool and Chelsea. I am surprised that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would want to join a club in such a state.”
The team isn’t in the best shape currently, but that doesn’t mean it has to stay that way. Some fresh faces and talent could go a long towards improving our fortunes.
It’s natural to wonder just why someone like Aubameyang would join the club now, but I’m not going to complain if it does happen. Whatever happens, Arsenal can’t sit around feeling sorry for themselves.
Even if we’re eight points off the Champions League places, we have to keep going and see what happens.
