Besiktas reportedly want to sign Arsenal’s Danny Welbeck as a replacement for Cenk Tosun, who joined Everton earlier this month.
Besiktas are hunting for a new centre forward after they sold top-scorer Cenk Tosun to Everton this month. According to Posta, Welbeck is their first-choice target.
Besiktas’ president, Fikret Orman, was reportedly in London to talk with clubs about their strikers. They regard Welbeck as a versatile forward who could fulfil a number of roles up front.
Posta also reports that should they be unable to sign the 27-year-old, they will target Leicester’s Islam Slimani instead.
Welbeck has found himself in the Arsenal starting line-up more often this season due to the uncertainty surrounding Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil. He’s scored five goals this campaign, and is only three away from matching his best tally for the club.
With both Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott expected to leave the club this month, Arsenal may be reluctant to let another forward go.
At the same time, it could be a chance to cash in on a player who will have a year remaining on his contract in the summer. Letting Welbeck leave mid-season wouldn’t be smart unless Arsenal definitely are strengthening their attack with at least one new arrival.
