Alfredo Pedulla says Juventus should focus on signing Matteo Darmian, not Hector Bellerin, after the Italian champions reportedly approached the Spaniard.

According to reports, Juventus are in the market for a right-back, either now or in the summer.

Tuttojuve.com claim they’ve now enquired about the 22-year-old’s availability more than once.

Sportitalia journalist Pedulla thinks the club should be negotiating with Manchester United, instead of Arsenal. He argued: “Juventus has been following him (Bellerin), it’s not easy to snatch him from Arsenal.

“The full-back for Juventus is Darmian, he’s not so young, but he’s got experience. Bellerin is a very interesting profile that Juventus has followed, but there are others abroad.

“Surely we should put Darmian in very high places on their list.”

There are a number of reasons why Darmian could be a better option for Juventus. For a start, he’s hardly getting any game time at Manchester United. The only way he managed to find a way into the team in the league was to play left-back. In total the 28-year-old has played 757 minutes, not even nine games’ worth in half a season.

Also, as Pedulla mentions, the United man has plenty of experience. He came through the Milan youth academy, and spent his entire career in Italy before two years ago. It’s hard to imagine the Italian international needing much time to adjust in Serie A.

From an Arsenal point of view, let’s hope Pedulla and the rest convince Juventus. Right-back is one of the few areas on the pitch the Gunners have tied down for years to come. They’d be shooting themselves in the foot messing with that.
