Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are interested in Reiss Nelson as his contract expires in 18 months, and little progress has been made on an extension with Arsenal.

Arsenal could end up losing one of their brightest young players. According to the Daily Mail, Real and PSG are keeping an eye on Reiss Nelson’s contract situation ahead of a potential move.

Nelson’s contract expires in 2019 and the report states very little progress has been made on agreeing an extension. However, the Mail are making a much bigger deal out of this than they should.

Nelson only signed his first professional contract with the club last season. He’s halfway into a three-year deal and has only broken into the Arsenal first-team this campaign.

This isn’t a situation that Arsenal have neglected. Rather, it’s quite normal for young players to be on short contracts until they make progress. One would expect Arsenal will be looking to extend it, given the progress the 18-year-old has made.

Nelson has made 10 appearances in the Arsenal first-team this season, though has yet to make his league début for the club. Given what we have seen from the teenager early, it would be a shame to lose him.

So, here’s hoping the rumours are nothing but fabrication.
