AS Roma could reportedly replace Edin Dzeko with one-time Arsenal-target Yannick Carrasco from Atletico Madrid.

Roma’s star striker, Edin Dzeko, could be on the move to Chelsea this January. As a result, they’re looking around for replacements and may have found one in Atletico Madrid’s Yannick Carrasco.

According to Calciomercato, Roma are looking to loan the £90m Belgian for the rest of the season with a view to a permanent move. Carrasco has fallen out of favour with Atleti manager Diego Simeone this season, making just seven La Liga starts, and could be open to a switch as a result.

He had been linked with Arsenal in the summer. It was during the height of the Alexis Sanchez rumours that Carrasco’s name was mentioned as a possible replacement. The club clearly had other targets in mind, and the 24-year-old remained at Atletico.

We’ve now signed Henrikh Mkhitaryan as our replacement for Sanchez, so the link is practically dead and buried now. In fact, his name barely came up throughout the season, which suggests there was very little to the original stories.

Carrasco joined Atletico from Monaco in 2015 after an impressive breakout campaign. He’s shown off his ability in patches, but hasn’t found the consistency to remain a regular in Simeone’s line-up.
