An old interview with Henrikh Mkhitaryan has surfaced, with the then-20-year-old revealing he’s an Arsenal fan.

Back in 2009, Mkhitaryan did an interview with UEFA where he revealed he would like to play for Arsenal one day. “My favourite team is Arsenal. I like their attacking play and fast style,” he said at the time.

“Moreover, Arsène Wenger puts faith in young players while demanding results at the same time. I like that and want to play there one day.”

The playmaker was an upcoming starlet for Armenian side FC Pyunik at the time. Although he may not be the Gooner he once was, you have to imagine he must feel some excitement over finally making the rumoured move, even if we are a mess at the moment.

That same year as the interview, the midfielder left FC Pyunik for Metalurh Donetsk and then joined Shakhtar Donetsk in 2010.

Three years later, Borussia Dortmund snapped Mkhitaryan up, and that’s where he really made a name for himself. Over 140 appearances, he scored 41 goals and created 49.

Although the 28-year-old’s move to Manchester United probably hasn’t been as successful as the Armenian would have hoped, signing for Arsenal, a team he supported when he was younger, could help him rediscover form.

Mkhitaryan is said to be completing his move to the Gunners within the next few days as Alexis Sanchez goes the other way. Although the playmaker allegedly took some convincing, probably given the situation the club’s currently in, he’s reportedly agreed to the transfer.

This is Arsenal though so anything can go wrong happen.
