Manchester United are reportedly ready to spend over £35.5m on Mesut Ozil in January.

According to French outlet le10sport, Jose Mourinho is ready to spend big – €40m (£35.5m) – to bring Ozil to Old Trafford this month.

The Portuguese manager is allegedly anxious that Paris Saint-Germain will come in with a massive offer.

If the Ligue 1 giants were to do so, it’s a no-brainer. Arsenal would much rather sell to a foreign club than a Premier League rival. In fact, if these were the only two options, I’m sure Arsene Wenger would drive Ozil to Paris himself.

This is why Jose apparently wants to make a serious bid this sooner rather that later.

PSG are currently struggling to meet Financial Fair Play regulations. Therefore, it would be far more sensible for them to wait until the playmaker is available on a free in the summer.

However, Ozil is already allowed to talk to foreign clubs so could reach an agreement before then, cutting out United entirely.

With just six months left on his Arsenal contract, the 29-year-old really needs to get a wriggle on if he’s going to put pen to paper on a new one, as has been reported recently.

If not, it would be better for all our hearts if we could just wrap this up one way or another as soon as possible.

Saying that, Ozil is a massive Arsenal fan favourite and the thought of selling him to a rival led by Jose Mourinho is far too much for most of us to bear.
