Manchester United reportedly want to sign former Arsenal midfielder Lassana Diarra on a free transfer, amid interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

SFR Sport write that PSG haven’t finalised terms with Diarra, despite reaching an agreement in principal. Therefore, the door is open for others to make their move, and United are among the clubs expressing an interest. AC Milan, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce have also contacted the midfielder’s representatives in recent weeks.

Up until November, Diarra was still playing for UAE Pro League side Al Jazira Club. However, the former Gunner terminated his contract in the hope of a move back to Europe in January. When we relayed reports a month ago, a return to Paris didn’t seem very likely, as PSG have plenty of midfield options.

However, the 32-year-old did start his career in Paris, and he has experience of being in the French league previously. Reports of a transfer have only intensified since then too, so there could be some truth to it all.

Diarra joined Chelsea in 2005, before signing a deal with the Gunners a couple of years later. At the time, he took over the number eight shirt from Freddie Ljungberg, but five months later Arsenal sold him to Portsmouth.

Perhaps now he’ll finally get the chance to prove himself in the Premier League with Manchester United, back under Jose Mourinho again? Stranger things have happened.
