Rio Ferdinand believes Alexis Sanchez should join Manchester City and not Manchester United if he wants to win trophies.

Alexis was close to joining Manchester City, but could soon be joining Manchester United instead. The potential move had confused many, who had been led to believe Alexis wanted to leave for trophies, and not just more money.

Even Rio Ferdinand, a United legend, feels that City is the place to be if a player wants success. “If he has got an option to go from Arsenal to go to Manchester City or Manchester United, as a footballer who wanted to win trophies, Manchester City looks like the place to go,” he told BT Sport.

“They are top of the league, they are going to win the league this season, they are in the Champions League, they are looking like they will be in the final for the League cup, the FA Cup as well potentially. So he has got more opportunities to win trophies there.”

If reports are to be believed, City have been put off by Alexis’ wage demands, and aren’t willing to pay a high transfer fee. United have proven to not have such reservations when it comes to buying players, however.

While they’re better placed for success than we are, they’re still a long way behind City on several levels. If Alexis is so enamoured with winning, he would surely wait until he’s a free agent in the summer instead of jumping at the first chance to leave.

As it is, he remains an Arsenal player and will do so until the club brings in a replacement, or just get so sick of him they want him out as soon as possible.
