Former Manchester United forward Dwight Yorke is positively salivating at the prospect of his old club signing Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal.
Speaking to talkSPORT about the possible move, Yorke believes that signing Alexis would be fantastic for United, and reckons all the big clubs should be interested when a player like the Chilean becomes available.
“When a top player like Sanchez becomes available, you expect all the big clubs to be involved,” said Yorke, who played for United between 1998-2002.
“Obviously there are strong rumours Chelsea are trying to hijack the deal, but it’s not a surprise, that’s what happens when a big player becomes available. Hopefully we’ve done everything we can possibly do to bring him to the football club.
“Having a player of that quality added to our squad, with the great ability we’ve already got upfront, this will be an absolutely fantastic deal for us to get such a quality player.”
The latest on the Alexis to United story, which has developed at an alarming rate, is that Henrikh Mkhitaryan will be handed to Arsenal as part of a straight swap deal.

Previously, it was reported that the Red Devils were willing to pay £40m plus the playmaker, which is presumably why the Gunners were going to bite their hand off.
Chelsea are allegedly going to swoop in and hijack the deal from United after they hijacked it from Manchester City. I’m still not completely convinced Pep Guardiola’s totally given up on signing the Chilean. I get the feeling there’s a final roll of the dice coming.
The media are in a frenzy at the moment because they seem to have forgotten that Alexis has played like he’s part-forward and part-slug for the last six months.
Therefore, like Yorke, they’re convinced United will become the best ever team to ever play football if they manage to sign the 29-year-old. I imagine, much like Arsenal fans this term, they’ll be left disappointed.
